Detroit, MI – Detroit is a city of builders, dreamers, and doers—and few embody that spirit more than John Barlow, a lifelong Detroiter, business leader, and community advocate who is stepping forward to finish the job and take the city’s progress to the next level.
With a career rooted in service, strategy, and execution, Barlow has spent over two decades fighting for Detroiters—helping families save their homes, supporting small businesses, creating jobs, and leading initiatives that bring real change to the city.
Now, he’s ready to take those results to City Hall.
On March 19, Barlow will officially announce his candidacy for Mayor of Detroit in an intimate gathering of supporters, business leaders, and community members. His vision? A Detroit that doesn’t just talk about change but gets it done.
Who is John Barlow?
A proud Detroit Public Schools graduate and Wayne State University attendee, Barlow’s journey is one of hard work, resilience, and a commitment to lifting others up. He built his career not in politics, but in business and community impact, using his entrepreneurial skills to develop solutions for Detroit’s most pressing challenges.
His accomplishments include:
✔ Business Leadership – Barlow has built and supported businesses that create jobs and economic stability for Detroiters.
✔ Housing Advocacy – Helping families navigate foreclosures, keeping them in their homes, and preventing displacement.
✔ Economic Growth – Working with city leaders and entrepreneurs to drive local investments and expand opportunities for small businesses.
✔ Community Investment – Launching programs that support youth mentorship, workforce training, and neighborhood revitalization.
Unlike career politicians, Barlow knows how to execute. He’s built businesses, saved homes, and worked side by side with Detroiters to deliver results that matter.
“There is no ‘downtown’ and ‘the neighborhoods’—there’s one Detroit,” said Barlow. “And if this city is going to win, everybody has to pitch in. We don’t get ahead by dividing ourselves—we rise by coming together, investing in each other, and making sure that every Detroiter has a stake in this city’s success.”
“Detroit is a city on the rise, but we can’t stop now,” said Barlow. “We’ve made progress, but too many Detroiters still feel like they’re waiting for their turn. I’m running for mayor because we need leadership that doesn’t just talk about change—we need leadership that finishes the job.”
“I’ve spent my career rolling up my sleeves and getting things done for Detroiters,” Barlow added. “From small business owners to homeowners fighting to stay in their neighborhoods, I’ve been there—and I’ll be there in City Hall, making sure Detroit works for the people who call it home.”
“This isn’t just a campaign—it’s a movement. A movement to build on what’s working, fix what’s broken, and deliver real opportunities for every Detroiter,” he continued.
